Getting it Wrong

You have to love it when the big guys mess up right? I have seen the same ads for T-mobile in Chicago, New York, LA and Las Vegas on my current tour of the US. They all say something along the lines of "lowest number of dropped calls in LA". This to me smacks of negativity; its like advertising your business and saying "we screw up less than anyone else". Would you buy from a firm that said that?

What about a firm that said "we never screw up", or " we won't drop your call"? Personally, I would find that a lot more attractive. Given the litigious nature of the US market I understand whay T-mobile is not keen to over-promise but compare their campaign to Verizon who clearly state on their ads "The most reliable network in the USA". I know who would get my money, what about you?

Think about this when you are making your own ads, whether it be through Adsense or similar online advertising, or in your Yellow Pages or local newspaper. All advertising raises awareness but make sure that you are getting out the right (positive message). If I were T-mobile I would be saying "99.9% call continuity in NY" or maybe even "more reliable than Verizon in NY" if they have the numbers to prove it!

Getting Hitched

Completely unrelated to my website, which is unusual. I get married this Friday in Las Vegas and will be broadcasting the event live. Instructions to view the event (3pm Vegas time, 11pm London) are as follows: -

The website is www.bellagio.com, click on html then amenities, then web

casting. The system will prompt you to enter the groom's name (brad emery).

Interesting morning

I finally have my affiliate link working but to be honest its ugly and a little obtrusive so will have to work on it. Equally I have adsense up and running but not the way I want. I only have 2 ads at the bottom of the page, and could not get the vertical bar to work on the right hand side. I am not too worried though as we are in the middle of a fairly thorough overhaul of the website. Check out www.thewowww.com. These guys have some great ideas, very creative.

Other positives include getting my new business cards last night, and of course the new logo, which I can't work out how to paste here. Today I received a couple of emails, one as a result of an article that I wrote on driving internet traffic, and the other through a post that I made on a small business forum. The first had an idea to start a business where I would help him, but we would both post our experience online to help others see what is involved, and what we have to go through. I like the idea and will explore it further.

The second email was from a guy who has spent the last few years building adult websites but now wants to come into the mainstream. He is trying to set up a group of internet marketers in Hong Kong to share ideas and techniques and thus help us all to see greater success. I also like this and will meet him next time I am in HK.

The truly gratifying part though is that 2 complete strangers liked what I am doing enough to mail me out of the blue and ask for my involvement in their projects. I realise this could get tired pretty quickly but right now it feels gratifying.

Oh and did I mention that my web stats seem to be rising again after a slight lull? 2 more articles submitted last night, plus some more frequent forum posting, and the affiliate program. Hopefully it is this activity driving it, and it will be sustainable!

Importing Advice

I got this from another forum (www.youngentrepreneur.com) but it is reproduced with the permission of the author, who has two websites at http://www.cheapretail.net/ and http://www.1337electronics.com/

It is interesting to me because this guy is actually doing what I am reccomending for many of my ideas and has obviously hit a few snags.

  1. Do not send any payments via Western Union. Even if you suspect the business is legitimate, it is the least safe way to send funds there is. If they do scam you, you're screwed. You cannot track the money.

    2. Suggest alternate payments such as T/T or Credit Card. Credit cards (from what I've been told) make it so that you are not liable for the full amount if they do end up scamming you. T/T or Telegraphic Transfer (Wire Transfer) is another method that is a bit more secure. When you ask your bank to send a T/T you can verify the account you are sending the money to and make sure it is a legit business account.

    3. Usually if it is too good to be true, it's not true. 90$ for an I-pod video is not even possible... From what I am told, you cannot buy wholesale I-pods from
Asia anyways. I am not sure how true this is but uber cheap I-pods are usually a scam.

    4. If your contact tends to barter with you and lower prices drastically just to get some cash from you, it's not usually a good sign. Manufacturers have set prices that are already usually as low as they are willing to go.

    5. In my experience, shipping usually runs from 50$USD for 3 MP3 Players to 150$USD for 26 Headsets w/ Microphones. If they quote your shipment for 4$ per mp3 player with shipping included, you're being scammed. Shipping is expensive, I've never had it integrated into the price of the products.

    6. Call the phone numbers listed on the websites, find someone to speak with. Usually a sales manager. If the person you speak with is well versed and can answer all your questions quickly and correctly, you are one step closer. This does not mean they are legit, it just means they know what they are talking about. However, it's more of a chance that they are legit.

Free Report on why you NEED to start your own business

According to the experts one of the reasons that I am not getting many people sign up is because I do not have an offer for potential members. They can get all the ideas from the website and there is nothing in it for them to sign up. With this in mind I wrote a report entitled "Why you Need to start your own Business". It runs to about 3 pages and I have posted it to some article submission sites aswell to see whether it will drive more traffic.

So the question I have is why no-one signed up today? I guess that either I didnt put the offer prominantly enough on the page, ór I didn't put a time limit on it, or it simply isn't appealing to the people that viewed the page today, whcih incidentally was the best day yet for pure traffic flow.

I also managed to forget my user name for Miva the ad generating site having only signed up yesterday. Actually I think they have some work to do as the confirmation before you can use the site system meant that I just logged out yesterday and then today obviously can't remember the sign in details, and they didn't send a confirmation email with teh details in. I have written to them so hopefully they will be quick to resolve it.

Ah, I'm tired and bitching so will end this here.
